I am new to sailing and wish to know where to start
starting point for navigation theory is the day skipper theory course which
starts of with very simple lessons and quizzes on parts of the boat, sails
etc. It then moves onto navigation, tidal heights, weather, collision
regulations and much more and give students a really good grounding in
preparation for their Day Skipper practical course.

the Day Skipper theory course or the fastrack to Yachtmaster Offshore /
Coastal Yachtmaster theory course. I have completed the Day
Skipper theory and wish to move on
The next stage is the Yachtmaster Offshore/Coastal Yachtmaster
theory course followed by the coastal practical course or if you have the
required miles and experience the Yachtmaster exam.
The Yachtmaster exam
prerequisite is 2500 miles including 5 passages of over 50 miles, two as
skipper and two overnight.I have completed my Yachtmaster
Offshore and would like to advance to ocean.
Take the ocean
theory and assessment.
The requirements to become an Ocean Yachtmaster:
RYA Yachtmaster offshore certificate, Ocean theory, a passage of over 800
miles 500 of them more than 50 miles offshore, a set of sights to show your
examiner and finally the oral exam where your sights are looked at and you
are asked a series of questions about ocean passage making.
